The Tippmann 98 custom series is to paintball what Lexus is to cars.  But make no mistake about it, this is an excellent line of paintball markers for the advanced and beginner player.

Tippmann actually ran this whole line of markers through some significant hardware and design upgrades and put them out as the 98 Custom Platinum Series.  They’re still 98s, but oh man did they make them sexier!

Some of the sweet new features in the Platinum line include:

[1] A split receiver construction that makes taking apart, customizing and modding your marker simple.

[2] Trigger & spring pins that greatly simplify reassembly and maintenance.

[3] Full-depth ASA pockets, which means you can take apart your marker without unscrewing the ASA bolts a bit first.

[4] Better air utilization and a dark finish that lessens glare.

[5] Rails by Picatinny that allow you to snap on various accessories like carry handles and scopes easily.

[6] Higher-friction grip, which keeps the gun firm in your hands and improves accuracy.

[7] New sling mount.

[8] A quick-attach thread Flatline barrel.

Of course, these markers still boast the specs that made them paintball players’ warhorse of choice for years, including full cross-compatibility between CO2, N2 and pressurized air cartridges, snap-release loaded elbow, 200 bullet hopper capacity and pure aluminum receiver.

No doubt about, this is one of the most well-designed and widely used series of paintball markers in the game, period.
